Java Rant Episode 8 - July 20th 2008

Show Notes…

In this episode we discuss the open source MMORPG server framework from Sun Microsystems called Project Darkstar. Jeff Kesselman is the architect and lead engineer on this project. It should be quite interesting to see what comes out of this powerful technology.

Groovy: The Red Pill

Posted on Wednesday 7 May 2008

Here at JavaOne there is a huge buzz about scripting languages. I just got out of the session called “Groovy, the Red Pill” by Scott Davis. Scott has been one of the most entertaining speakers here so far. The best part of this session was not that he was funny, but he really brought the audience along in the “day and life” of a Groovy developer.

JavaOne is right around the corner

Posted on Monday 28 April 2008

The big conference of the year is just one weekaway. For those of you that don’t know about JavaOne, it is the conference that Sun Microsystems puts on each year. Industry leaders are brought in to speak about the various hot technologies along with a myriad of other interesting topics. Talks range anywhere from Service Oriented Architectures and SOA frameworks to Sun’s open source MMORPG server Darkstar.

Two colleagues of mine and I will be going to JavaOne 2008 and will be giving updates throughout the week. There will be short updates on this blog and more detailed talks on the JavaRant.com podcast. If you aren’t already subscribed, go and add it to your favorite pod catcher software so you don’t miss anything!

If there are any suggested topics you would like to hear about, send in a comment and we will do our best to get some information. If you are a listener and would like to get together, send me an email, I would love to meet some other folks while we are out there!

Memory, memory everywhere and not a byte to eat

Posted on Friday 21 March 2008

I love the Hibernate framework from JBoss, truly I do. The productivity that it gives me is through the roof, well once I got used to it that is.
